Q1 What is offered within Independent Living Apartments?

Villages offer enhanced lifestyle for older adults, with emphasis on upholding an individual's privacy & autonomy, in a relaxed community environment,

Q2 Who is best suited to Independent Living and can live there?
Independent Living is ideal for residents who: want a secure base in which to live; want to live independently; desire the security that a retirement village offers; no longer wish to maintain a house; and prefer to live amongst like-minded people of a similar age. This accommodation is designed for people over 55 years of age who are able to live independently.

Q3 How do you gain access to the accommodation? Is there a waiting list?
There is a waiting list for Independent Living Units. Intending residents should provide their details for inclusion on the waiting list for Packy's Village - including the year when they anticipate wanting to access the accommodation plus a $500 waiting list fee.

Q4 How is access assigned?
Each vacancy is offered to those in the current year listing, with priority accorded to the earliest application. If an offer is refused, another offer will be made on the next available vacancy. NOTE: if an applicant refuses three offers, they will be removed from the list and their waiting list fee will be refunded.

Q5 What will it cost to enter Packy's Village?
Residents pay a market-rate licence fee that varies with the amenities of the particular unit. The licence fee is made as an interest-free loan, with a Deferred Management Fee to be deducted over the first ten years of the occupancy.

Q6 Are there any on-going fees/levy?
All residents pay a levy every 4 weeks, via direct debit. This covers all expenses other than telephone, electricity and personal upkeep.

Q7 Can residents have visitors?
Yes. This is the residents' home, so they can welcome family or friends to visit or stay short term. Longer-term stays can be arranged with Village Management.

Q8 Can residents leave the accommodation for holidays, etc?
Residents certainly may leave their unit for holidays. The levy is still paid during their absence. All we ask is if residents will be away for more than one week, they advise Village Management of their intended absence and return.

Q9 Can a resident have a pet?
Individual pets are generally not allowed due to the shared village nature. However some pets have been allowed where approved by the other residents.

Q10 Can a resident leave the accommodation to live somewhere else?
Yes, however on vacating the unit. A percentage (based on length of occupancy) of the original licence fee/purchase price is repaid

Q11 When is the entry contribution refunded?
Such dealings are in keeping with terms of the contract for occupancy and the Retirement Villages Act. Entry contribution is refunded when the contract is terminated and the unit permanently vacated. It is made within 2 weeks of another person subsequently occupying the unit or within 6 months, at the latest, in other cases.
